History

The origins of Shepherds Bush Station can be traced back to 1869 when the London & North Western Railway, in partnership with the Great Western Railway, opened Uxbridge Road station on the site as part of their Middle Circle route.

The branch changed ownership in 1905, becoming part of the Metropolitan Railway before passing again in 1908 to the Metropolitan Line of London Underground. These services continued until 19 October 1940 when Uxbridge Road was closed as a result of bomb damage caused during the Blitz.

Following the commencement of redevelopment of the White City area in 2005 and the building of the Westfield Shopping Centre, the Westfield Group funded the design and construction of a new station on the site of Uxbridge Road.

Building work on the new station commenced in 2006 and the station was provisionally due to open in Summer of 2007. The majority of construction works were completed on time, but due to the Northbound platform being constructed too narrow to comply with railway safety regulations, remedial construction works meant that the station did not open until September 2008.

In April 2015, a programme of station upgrades was completed with longer platforms to serve 8-car trains and a new entrance and footbridge being constructed at the northern end of the station.
