History

Cambridge Heath Station, like London Fields, was opened on 27 May 1872 as part of the Great Eastern Railway’s new, more direct line between Bishopsgate and Edmonton.

Again, like London Fields, Cambridge Heath was closed as an economy measure between May 196 & May 1919. Following the passing of the Railways Act 1921, ownership of the GER & Cambridge Heath passed to the London North Eastern Railway before further passing on to British Railways (Eastern Region) as part of Nationalisation in 1948.

The railway lines through Cambridge Heath were electrified in the late 1950s with electric services commencing operation on 21 November 1960.

As with London Fields, Cambridge Heath spent most of the 1980s and 1990s only being served by weekday peak hour services, with normal all day service not commencing at the station until 1998 with evening and Saturday services following in 2001. The current service through the station (including Sundays) was not instigated until 2005.

In May 2015, operation of the station, along with the services calling there passed from Abellio Greater Anglia to London Overground.
