History

Wanstead Park Station was opened by the Tottenham & Forest Gate Railway on their line to Woodgrange Park and Barking on 9 July 1894.  Nothing of any historical note occurred at Wanstead Park until 1970, when the original T&FGR wooden platform awnings were removed.  This was followed in the mid 1980s by the closure of the street level ticket office and in the late 1990s by the relocation of the station entrance from the Barking end to it’s current location in Woodgrange Road.

Operation of the station passed from Silverlink to London Overground in November 2007 and services were increased to three, then, following upgrade work by Network Rail, four services per hour in each direction.  The station, along with the rest of the Gospel Oak – Barking line, is currently being electrified and electric train services are due to commence in 2018.
