The Optare Solo is a low-floor integral minibus/midibus with 1 or 2 doors manufactured by Optare since 1998.
The Solo name is a play on its low-floor status, namely 200 mm with kneeling suspension.
The staggeringly low ground clearance of the Solo is due to a very innovative design feature, namely the front wheel is ahead of the entrance door. This innovation gained Optare a Queens Award for Enterprise.
In January 2012, Optare announced the end of production of the original Solo design after 14 years. The Optare Solo was retired in favour of the new-look 2012 Optare Solo SR for both UK and export markets.
